IMAGE SQUISHER GUIDE

Compress Photos Without Losing Quality

Image Squisher compresses photos with literally zero quality loss when you ask it to: the top of the quality slider is a true loss-free mode. JPEGs get repacked with the picture bit-for-bit identical, other formats get loss-free re-encoding. Same pixels, provably. Nothing uploaded.

How to compress photos without losing quality

Three steps.

1

Drop your photos in

Any mix of JPG, PNG, HEIC, WebP and friends.

2

Set the slider to Original

The top of the slider is genuinely loss-free: nothing is re-encoded lossily, no exceptions.

3

Hit Squish

Smaller files appear with identical pixels. If a file can’t shrink without loss, it’s left alone and reported.

What loss-free actually means here

Two genuinely loss-free tricks exist for photos. For JPEGs: lossless repacking, rearranging how the same data is stored so the picture is identical (typically 5 to 15% off). For everything else, re-encoding into a loss-free format such as PNG or JPEG XL, which for JPEGs can convert reversibly and cut around 20%.

Both happen automatically at the Original setting, and the app proves the claim: every loss-free output is decoded back and compared, pixel for pixel, before it’s allowed to replace anything. If the math doesn’t check out, you keep your original.

Good to know

  • Loss-free means measured, not promised: outputs are verified pixel-exact.
  • Originals are never modified; results are new files.
  • Works fully offline.

Questions, answered

How much smaller is loss-free, really?

Modest and honest: usually 5 to 20% for photos, more for PNGs and screenshots. Big percentage cuts require lossy compression; anyone promising both is selling something.

Then why not always use loss-free?

Space. Lossy at the recommended setting typically saves ten times more and still looks like the same photo. Loss-free is for when ‘provably identical’ matters.

Which platforms does it run on?

Windows, macOS and Linux. Same app, same engine, free tier on all three.

Is it really free?

Yes. It costs nothing, needs no account, and whole batches run one after another. Every input format and the full quality engine are included. If you point it at a really big collection you’ll eventually meet the free limit; Pro ($9 once) removes it and adds a watch folder, or you can simply come back tomorrow.

Smaller files. Identical pixels. Provably.
