IMAGE SQUISHER GUIDE

Compress JPG Files

Image Squisher compresses JPG files locally, and it’s smarter than a blanket quality setting: it looks at each photo individually and picks what that specific image can take. Photos that are already well compressed get a loss-free repack instead of a quality cut. Nothing uploaded.

How to compress a JPG

Three steps.

1

Drop your JPGs in

One photo or a whole library. The list shows each file’s expected result.

2

Pick a word on the slider

From Smallest to Original. The recommended middle setting already looks like the original photo; pick it and move on.

3

Hit Squish

Smaller JPGs appear under new names, each one checked against its original before saving.

Why per-photo beats one setting for everything

Most compressors apply one quality number to every file. That’s too harsh on easy pictures (flat skies, screenshots, simple graphics) and too soft on hard ones (noise, fine textures, hair). The honest fix is measuring, which is what happens here: every output is compared against its original before it’s allowed to exist.

And when a JPG is already tight, from a phone that compresses well or an export that was optimized before, the app falls back to a purely loss-free repack: same picture, smaller container, zero quality change. If nothing can be done, it tells you so and leaves the file alone.

Good to know

  • Never-bigger promise: a result larger than the original is simply not delivered.
  • Already-optimal files get a loss-free repack instead of a quality cut.
  • Location info and camera serials come off by default.

Questions, answered

How much smaller will my photos get?

It depends on the photos. Phone shots and exports commonly land 50 to 90% smaller at the recommended setting. Already-optimized files see smaller gains, honestly reported per file.

What's the catch with the free version?

No watermarks, no account, no tricks. Point it at a really big library and you’ll eventually meet the free limit; Pro ($9 once) removes it, or tomorrow works too.

Does it upload my photos anywhere?

No. Everything happens on your computer. There is no account, no cloud, no watermark, and it works fine offline.

Which platforms does it run on?

Windows, macOS and Linux. Same app, same engine, free tier on all three.

Same photos, a fraction of the disk.
