Shrink an Archive of Old Photos
Image Squisher shrinks old photo archives locally. Years of camera rolls, scans and phone dumps drop to a fraction of their size with nothing deleted and nothing uploaded. Batches run one after another; for whole-archive weekends, Pro removes the limits.

How to shrink a photo archive
Three steps.
Drag the archive folder in
Thousands of files are fine; the list reports every one.
Pick a word on the slider
The recommended setting looks like the original photos. For archives where ‘provably identical’ matters, the top of the slider is the loss-free mode.
Hit Squish and let it run
Each photo is looked at, squished and checked individually. Files that can’t improve are skipped honestly, so nothing degrades for no reason.
The library you never look at still costs you disk
Old archives are the perfect squish target: photos from five-plus years ago were exported by worse tools at lazier settings, and you almost never open them. They just sit there, several megabytes each, quietly owning a third of your drive and sabotaging every backup.
Running an archive through the app typically takes it down 50 to 80%, and the never-bigger promise means the worst case is ‘unchanged’, never worse. Smaller archives also mean cloud tiers stop filling, backups finish faster, and the day you do need a photo, it opens like any other.
Good to know
- Originals are never modified; squished copies are new files.
- Never-bigger promise: worst case is ‘left alone’.
- Pro’s watch folder can squish new arrivals automatically so the archive never grows fat again.
Questions, answered
Is this safe for my only copy?
The app never touches the originals, so your archive stays intact by construction. That said, any real archive should follow the usual backup rule of keeping a second copy somewhere else, regardless of what software you run on it.
How long does a big archive take?
Thousands of photos run overnight; the list shows progress and you can pause anytime. Very long runs are where Pro’s unlimited mode earns its $9.
Does it overwrite my originals?
Never. Finished files are written under new names, so the originals and the results live side by side.
Which platforms does it run on?
Windows, macOS and Linux. Same app, same engine, free tier on all three.
Keep every memory. Return the gigabytes.
