Exact dimensions are where naive resizing betrays people: force a landscape photo into a square and it bulges; force 600×600 from a portrait shot and faces widen. The correct meaning of ‘exact dimensions’ for photos is ‘fit inside, as large as possible, no distortion’, with padding or cropping as a separate choice.
That’s the behavior here: the box is a limit, the photo keeps its shape, and mixed portrait/landscape batches each come out right side correct. Forms that demand a specific pixel size (the DV lottery’s 600×600 is the classic) pair this with a file-size target for the full requirements in one pass.
