IMAGE SQUISHER GUIDE

Compress PNG Files

Image Squisher compresses PNG files locally, and because it’s PNG, the default path keeps every pixel exactly as it was. Simple graphics get an extra check that only shrinks colors when the result is provably identical. Nothing uploaded.

How to compress a PNG

Three steps.

1

Drop your PNGs in

Screenshots, exports, art, a whole folder if you like.

2

Pick a word on the slider

For PNG the savings happen in the packing, not in your picture; the slider mostly rides near the top.

3

Hit Squish

Smaller PNGs appear under new names with the exact same picture inside.

PNG size lives in the packing

A PNG stores its pixels perfectly, but how tightly it packs them varies wildly. The PNGs that come out of everyday editors and screenshot tools are routinely 20 to 60% larger than the same picture needs to be.

Image Squisher runs heavy-duty PNG packing and keeps whatever belongs in the file. Flat-color art gets one extra check: if reducing the color count would be picture-identical, it happens; if not, it doesn’t. Loss-free means loss-free here.

Good to know

  • Default PNG path is loss-free: identical picture, smaller file.
  • Colors stay exactly as they were.
  • Nothing is uploaded; runs offline.

Questions, answered

Is this truly lossless?

Yes. The default PNG path never alters a pixel; savings come from packing the same data better. Any step that would change the picture simply doesn’t run unless it proves the result is identical.

My PNGs are photos and huge. Better idea?

Yes: convert them to JPG (dramatically smaller, visually identical) or WebP. Both are one setting away.

Is it really free?

Yes. It costs nothing, needs no account, and whole batches run one after another. Every input format and the full quality engine are included. If you point it at a really big collection you’ll eventually meet the free limit; Pro ($9 once) removes it and adds a watch folder, or you can simply come back tomorrow.

Does it overwrite my originals?

Never. Finished files are written under new names, so the originals and the results live side by side.

Same picture, less disk.
