About CR3

CR3 arrived in 2018 with the EOS M50 and became the RAW format for Canon’s mirrorless era: the whole EOS R line, from the RP to the top bodies, plus the later M cameras. It brought better compression and (in C-RAW mode) smaller files.

Being the newest Canon format, CR3 support outside Canon’s own tools is still uneven, especially on older computers. Batch-converting the shots you actually use into JPG makes them instantly portable.

Good to know

  • C-RAW CR3 files are supported too.
  • Development is automatic; no Canon software required.
  • Runs offline, on your machine.

Questions, answered

Does it handle C-RAW as well?

Yes, both regular and compressed C-RAW CR3 files decode fine.

Is it really free?

Yes. It costs nothing, needs no account, and whole batches run one after another. Every input format and the full quality engine are included. If you point it at a really big collection you’ll eventually meet the free limit; Pro ($9 once) removes it and adds a watch folder, or you can simply come back tomorrow.

Does it upload my photos anywhere?

No. Everything happens on your computer. There is no account, no cloud, no watermark, and it works fine offline.

New Canon, standard files.
