Make an ICO File (Favicon From Any Image)
Need a favicon.ico? Drop your logo or photo into Image Squisher, pick ICO as the output format, tick the sizes you want, hit Squish. You get a proper Windows icon file with the standard 16 to 256px set inside, and the image never leaves your computer.

How to make an .ico file
Three steps.
Drop your image in
A square PNG works best (transparent background even better).
Pick ICO and your sizes
Under Settings, Output format, choose ICO, then tick the sizes to embed: 16, 32, 48, 64, 128, 256px.
Hit Squish
One .ico comes out containing every size you picked, ready to rename favicon.ico and upload.
What an .ico actually is
An .ico isn’t so much a picture format as a container: it holds several sizes of the same icon at once, so Windows can show a crisp 16px version in a title bar and a detailed 256px one on the desktop. Websites use the same trick: favicon.ico in the site root covers browsers that never ask for anything fancier.
Hand-building that size ladder in a normal photo editor means exporting half a dozen files and finding a tool to staple them together. Image Squisher produces the finished container in one pass, from any image it can read, which is nearly all of them.
Good to know
- 16, 32, 48, 64, 128 and 256px sizes available.
- Transparency from PNG sources carries into the icon.
- Runs locally; logos don’t get uploaded to icon sites.
Questions, answered
My logo isn't square. Now what?
Make it square first, for example with the resize options in the same app (keeping proportions, then padding in your editor of choice). Windows stretches non-square icons, and it never looks good.
Does this work for website favicons?
Yes. Upload the file as favicon.ico in your site root. Modern browsers also accept PNG favicons, but the .ico covers everything, everywhere.
Which platforms does it run on?
Windows, macOS and Linux. Same app, same engine, free tier on all three.
Is it really free?
Yes. It costs nothing, needs no account, and whole batches run one after another. Every input format and the full quality engine are included. If you point it at a really big collection you’ll eventually meet the free limit; Pro ($9 once) removes it and adds a watch folder, or you can simply come back tomorrow.
