IMAGE SQUISHER GUIDE

Compress a PDF

Image Squisher compresses PDF files locally. Documents, scans and photo collections saved as PDFs drop in, and smaller PDFs come out. In a real run, a 2.2 MB PDF came out 45% smaller with the same pages. Nothing is uploaded.

How to compress a PDF

Three steps.

1

Drop your PDFs in

One file or a folder of them. Documents, scans, photo albums saved as PDF, all welcome.

2

Pick a word on the slider

From Smallest to Original. The recommended setting keeps the pages looking like themselves.

3

Hit Squish

Smaller PDFs appear under new names, each page still there and checked before saving.

Why PDFs get so heavy

A PDF is a container, and most of its weight is usually the pictures inside: photos pasted at full camera size, scans saved carelessly, screenshots embedded raw. The text costs almost nothing; the images are the luggage.

That’s what gets fixed here: the pictures inside are re-compressed properly and the PDF is rebuilt around them. A real example from our own testing: a 2.2 MB PDF full of photos came out 45% smaller, pages and all.

Good to know

  • It stays a PDF: same pages, smaller file.
  • The quality slider decides how close the pictures inside stay to the originals.
  • Runs offline; contracts and private documents never visit a website.

Questions, answered

Will my document still look the same?

At the recommended setting, yes: every page is checked before it’s saved. Pages full of crisp text see modest savings; pages full of photos see the big wins.

Is this one of those online PDF compressors?

No. It’s a desktop app, so your PDFs never leave the computer. That matters if the files are contracts, scans of IDs, or anything private.

Which platforms does it run on?

Windows, macOS and Linux. Same app, same engine, free tier on all three.

Is it really free?

Yes. It costs nothing, needs no account, and whole batches run one after another. Every input format and the full quality engine are included. If you point it at a really big collection you’ll eventually meet the free limit; Pro ($9 once) removes it and adds a watch folder, or you can simply come back tomorrow.

Same PDF, half the weight.
