Compress a Photo for WhatsApp
Image Squisher gets photos ready for WhatsApp locally. The trick is honesty about how WhatsApp works: it recompresses every photo you send as a photo, and the way around that is sending as a document, which stays under the roughly 16 MB document cap. A 16 MB size target preset is built in.

How to send a full-quality photo on WhatsApp
Three steps.
Drop the photo in
The one that matters, at full quality.
Set the 16 MB target
Pick the 16 MB preset (or type your own number). The app finds the best quality that fits.
Send it as a document
In WhatsApp, choose Document instead of Gallery and pick the squished file. It arrives exactly as you sent it.
Why WhatsApp photos look bad
Every photo sent as a photo through WhatsApp is re-compressed on WhatsApp’s servers, aggressively and non-negotiably. That’s why your beautiful 12 MP shot arrives as a soft, over-sharpened smear. It’s not your phone and it’s not the network.
Sent as a document, a file skips that pipeline entirely, but documents have their own size cap (around 16 MB, it moves a little by platform). So the play is: squish your photo under the cap yourself, at a quality you chose, then send it as a document. What arrives is what you sent.
Good to know
- 16 MB preset built in; type any other limit you like.
- Works the same in WhatsApp groups and one-to-one chats.
- Your photos never pass through an online compressor.
Questions, answered
Does this stop WhatsApp from compressing my photos?
Only when you send the file as a document; regular photo sends always get recompressed. The app’s job is getting your file under the document size cap at full quality.
Does it upload my photos anywhere?
No. Everything happens on your computer. There is no account, no cloud, no watermark, and it works fine offline.
Does it overwrite my originals?
Never. Finished files are written under new names, so the originals and the results live side by side.
What you sent is what they see.
