About CR2

CR2 (Canon RAW version 2) was Canon’s RAW format from 2004 through 2018, across the EOS range: the Rebels, the x0D and xD bodies up to the 5D Mark IV, and the EOS M line.

Canon replaced it with CR3 in 2018, so CR2 files are now a legacy format by definition: every year more software drops support, and every year your archive stays the same size. Converting the keepers to JPG makes them usable everywhere and much lighter.

Questions, answered

My camera shoots CR3, not CR2. Also covered?

Yes, both. There’s a dedicated CR3 page linked below; the app handles every Canon RAW either way.

Is it really free?

Yes. It costs nothing, needs no account, and whole batches run one after another. Every input format and the full quality engine are included. If you point it at a really big collection you’ll eventually meet the free limit; Pro ($9 once) removes it and adds a watch folder, or you can simply come back tomorrow.

Does it overwrite my originals?

Never. Finished files are written under new names, so the originals and the results live side by side.

Canon RAW, everyday format.
